From the booking system to the books, connected.

What goes wrong

Most of the money passing through an agency does not belong to it. A client is billed, the agency collects and keeps its commission, and the rest is owed to the talent. The agency's revenue is the commission, not the invoice, and a system that treats gross billings as income is wrong in every direction at once.

From that one mismatch the rest follows. The booking system and the ledger disagree until someone re-keys the difference. Talent accounts need a running sub-ledger, not a vendor list. Usage renewals and exclusivities come due whether or not anyone is watching, and a renewal that is never invoiced never shows up as overdue, so the loss goes unnoticed. Across several offices and countries, every one of these problems multiplies.

What works

There are two paths, and the right one depends on the size of the agency and the complexity of its arrangements. On both, the general ledger is Dynamics 365, localized for each country. The principle holds either way: the general ledger should be boring. Agency complexity belongs in software built for it, never configured into the ledger by hand.

Two paths, one ledger.
